F-150’s fuel-saving EcoBoost engine and electric power assist steering earn high ratings from customers in Ford quality survey.
F-150 also was the highest-ranked full-size pickup this year in J.D. Power and Associates’ Initial Quality Study (IQS), and Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout (APEAL) Study.
Ford’s EcoBoost technology is helping lead a consumer shift to smaller engines. Ford sold over 13,000 F-150 pickups equipped with EcoBoost engines in both September and October.

DEARBORN, Mich., Nov. 28, 2011 – Customers are as happy with the new F-150’s V-6 EcoBoost engine as with their favorite V-8, as Ford proves consumers will move in large numbers to smaller engines.

The F-150’s EcoBoost engine and another fuel-saving technology – electric power assist steering – earned high ratings from customers in Ford’s 2011 U.S. Global Quality Research System, or GQRS, helping to power the F-150 to some of the industry’s strongest independent quality rankings in 2011.

The V-6 EcoBoost-equipped F-150 is achieving customer quality ratings on par with F-150s equipped with the popular 5.0-liter V-8 engine, according to data from GQRS, a quarterly survey conducted for Ford by RDA Group of Bloomfield Hills, Mich. The data was gathered from surveys of more than 1,600 F-150 owners who purchased their trucks between September 2010 and May 2011.

“Ford F-150 customers are very discerning so we are pleased they rate our new EcoBoost technology as highly as V-8 engines that some thought truck customers would never give up,” said Doug Scott, group marketing manager, F-Series trucks. “We believe this is a good sign as we plan to roll out this innovative, powerful and fuel-saving technology to most of our lineup during the next few years.”

Electric power-assisted steering, or EPAS – another Ford truck first – is also giving the F-150 a quality edge, with steering that adapts to changing road conditions and vehicle speed, allowing for more confident handling and improved fuel economy.

Internal customer data show these technologies have reduced warranty claims with 25 percent fewer complaints for vehicle vibration and 33 percent less reported issues with drifting and pulling. This means customers are happier with the new system than the reliable outgoing hydraulic-assisted steering system.

The SEMA Award honors vehicles that specialty equipment manufacturers believe are the best platforms for accessorizing and that showcase this year’s coolest products, according to SEMA

Las Vegas, Nov. 2, 2011 – Once again, Ford F-Series pickups are officially the “Hottest Truck” at the annual SEMA show in Las Vegas. The SEMA Award recognizes the most popular vehicles the organization’s members feature in their displays during the weeklong trade show.

Before this year’s show opened, SEMA officials walked the floor of the giant aftermarket expo and counted the number of trucks exhibited in booths. More Ford F-Series pickups are on display than any other truck – testament to the popularity and appeal of Ford F-Series trucks with the aftermarket.

DALLAS, Sept. 29, 2011 – With its new standard 36-gallon fuel tank, the powerful and fuel-efficient 2012 Ford F-150 EcoBoost® pickup can drive nearly the entire length of California – from Oregon to Mexico – on one tank of gas.

Responding to customer demand, F-150 EcoBoost now has a driving range of 756 miles between fill-ups. That long-distance highway cruising range is designed to save F-150 drivers time by reducing stops for fuel.

“We know the majority of our customers use their F-150s daily for work or play. It’s an essential tool that enhances their productivity,” said Doug Scott, Ford Truck Group Marketing manager. “Reducing downtime for fuel stops can help them do their jobs more efficiently or get more out of their leisure time.”

The 2012 F-150 EcoBoost 4×4, for example, can be driven nonstop from Atlanta to Detroit or from Houston to El Paso on a single tank of gas. It can go from Sierra, Calif., to Ram Lake, Ore., with 355 miles to spare. With only one fill-up along the way, the 2012 F-150 EcoBoost can be driven from Silverado, Calif., to Tundra, Texas, at a distance of 1,496 miles.

2012 Ford F-150 delivers even more of what customers are looking for with a new FX appearance package, and several new technologies and driveline upgrades. They include the addition of Hill Start Assist, a new automatic 4×4 system for Lariattrim

Debuting stealthy, flat-black accents, the FX appearance package offers a unique 20-inch flat-black wheel, a stylized bodyside graphic and black badges with red lettering. DALLAS, Sept. 29, 2011 – Ford F-150 – the most fuel-efficient and capable full-size pickup on the market – is getting fine-tuned for 2012, with a new FX appearance package and several driveline updates and new technologies to further improve and refine the driving experience.

“The new FX package delivers a distinctive style that truck buyers are looking for without compromising on any of the F-150’s rugged qualities,” said Raj Sarkar, F-150 Marketing manager. “It expands our range of specialty vehicles with custom elements that customers previously could find only in the aftermarket.”

The new FX appearance package is available on both FX4 and FX2 trucks and delivers a unique look with stealthy, flat-black accents. The look is set off with black fender and tailgate badges that feature red lettering, which is carried into the interior with a red-stitched steering wheel.

The FX’s interior also features black leather seating surfaces with red perforations and red piping. Unique interior touches include black-painted dash accents, brushed-metal surfaces, and satin shifter knob, door handles and air conditioning vent bezels. The package is available with all FX colors.

System is exclusive to Ford trucks

DEARBORN, Mich., March 10, 2011 – An all-new Truck App in Ford F-Series features an industry-first in truck technology – a software application for safe and easy towing and off-roading.

With more than 50 percent of F-Series owners regularly towing a trailer, Ford developed the first application to walk drivers through the proper trailer connection process, among many other features.

The Truck App is available on F-Series’ class-exclusive LCD instrument cluster screen, a beefier version of the driver information display where traditional stats on fuel economy, vehicle settings and trip tracking also live.

“The 4.2-inch LCD productivity screen presents detailed information in an engaging, easy-to-use manner so customers get the most out of their Ford trucks for work and for play,” said Joseph Fodera, cluster applications engineer.

A checklist asks drivers a set of questions to help ensure the trailer is connected properly:

Ball coupler connected and locked?
Tongue jack raised?
Mirrors adjusted?
Electrical wiring connected?
Lights functioning correctly (running lights, left/right turn and brake lights)?
Trailer Brake Controller gain setting adjusted?

DEARBORN, Mich., Feb. 7, 2011 – Production begins this week on Ford F-Series Super Duty trucks with upgraded towing capacity. The beefed-up frame and hitch return the industry’s best-selling heavy-duty truck to the head of the pack in conventional trailer towing.

Ford F-350 and F-450 Super Duty trucks with the 6.7-liter Power Stroke® V-8 diesel engine and dual rear wheels now can tow an industry-best 17,500 pounds. That’s 1,000 pounds more than the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra 4×2 and 500 pounds more than the Silverado and Sierra 4×4.

Furthermore, Super Duty’s latest improvements arrive at a time when its customer satisfaction score – 83 percent – is the best in the industry for heavy-duty trucks; and when Super Duty’s market share is the highest in a decade.

DEARBORN,Mich., Nov. 15, 2010 – One of every two heavy-duty pickups sold in the United States in the first nine months of the year is a Ford F-Series Super Duty.

The new Super Duty dominates the heavy-duty pickup segment with 50 percent of total heavy-duty sales, an increase in market share of 5 percentage points over the same period last year – its highest share since 2001. This is according to a Ford analysis of recently released registration data by R.L. Polk.

DEARBORN, Mich., Nov. 3, 2010 – Consumer demand for Ford Motor Company’s fresh lineup of high-quality, fuel-efficient vehicles in October helped the company grow monthly sales 19 percent versus a year ago, with 157,935 units sold.

Year-to-date, Ford, Lincoln and Mercury sales totaled 1.6 million, up 21 percent – growing double the overall industry rate. Ford is on track to gain market share for the second year in a row – a result not achieved since 1993.

“Increasingly, consumers are choosing Ford,” said Ken Czubay, Ford vice president, U.S. Marketing, Sales and Service. “Ford’s broad range of high-quality, fuel-efficient vehicles offer buyers value that endures for the life of the purchase and when they trade their vehicle.”

Ford has shown consistent improvement in vehicle quality and reliability for several years. For 2011, 90 percent of Ford vehicles tested average or above average in the Consumer Reports study. In the most recent J.D. Power Initial Quality Study, Ford brand ranked fifth among all brands and first among non-luxury brands.

The new 5.0-liter V8 engine is projected to deliver best-in-class 21 mpg highway, pending EPA certification.
