Dearborn, Mich., Aug. 18, 2010 – The Boss 302 is back, and the Ford display at the Woodward Dream Cruise is the perfect place to check out Ford’s latest pony car, the recently unveiled 2012 Mustang Boss 302. The Boss 302, along with the track-ready Boss 302 Laguna Seca, will greet visitors to the Ford display in Ferndale, Mich.

Ford employees are also getting in on the fun, bringing an anticipated 10 original Boss Mustangs for display.

But that’s not the only Mustang eye-candy. Mustang Alley will showcase more than 500 Mustangs – one of the largest gatherings of Mustangs in the country. The Ford display, which extends more than a mile along 9 Mile Road, also includes the 2011 Mustang GT with the all-new 412-horsepower 5.0-liter engine.

DEARBORN, Mich., July 1, 2010 – Ford’s newest models helped the company conclude a strong first half as Ford, Lincoln and Mercury dealers delivered 170,900 new vehicles in June – a 15 percent increase versus a year ago. Year-to-date sales totaled 954,745, up 28 percent with growth across Ford’s full family of cars (up 27 percent), utilities (up 24 percent) and trucks (up 32 percent).

Sales for the 2011 F-Series Super Duty were 58 percent higher than a year ago, capturing more than 50 percent of the heavy duty pickup segment – believed to be the first time since year 2000 that Super Duty has achieved a 50 percent share.

Retail sales for the Mustang were 37 percent higher than a year ago. Since the arrival of the 2011 model, featuring new V-6 and V-8 engines that deliver more horsepower and improved fuel economy, Mustang’s share has climbed to a level not seen in 13 months.

We know firsthand that both the 2011 Ford Mustang V6 and GT aren’t just plenty quick – they’re downright scary fast compared to their predecessors. It should follow, that the king of the heap 2011 GT500 should be similarly faster than the 2010 model. Let’s just go ahead and call that one an understatement. Ford just dropped a tasty video on the interwebs showing the car lapping one of our favorite tracks – Virginia International Speedway. 

Ford’s engineers had it in their minds that the new aluminum block with its 120-pound weight savings should help the car click off the 4.1-mile Grand West portion of the track about three seconds quicker than the outgoing car. Thing is, the 2011 GT500 managed to lap the track in 2:58.5 – a full nine seconds faster than last year’s version.

Variable Camshaft Timing (VCT) is an automobile variable valve timing technology developed by Ford. It uses electronically controlled hydraulic valves that direct engine oil into the camshaft phaser cavity. These oil control solenoids are bolted into the cylinder heads towards the front of the engine near the camshaft phasers. The powertrain control module (PCM) transmits a signal to the solenoids to move a valve spool that regulates the flow of oil to the phaser cavity. The phaser cavity changes the valve timing by either advancing or retarding the camshafts to allow for optimum engine performance, reduced emissions, and increased fuel efficiency.

The VCT system is used in Ford’s Triton 5.4L 3-valve V8 engine; the Australian Barra 182 and 240 Inline-6s; Ford’s 4.6L 3-valve V8 engine used in the 2006-present Ford Explorer and 2005-present Ford Mustang GT; and the 2.0L Zetec Inline-4 used in the 1998-2003 Ford Escort ZX2 and the Ford Contour. It was also used in 99-00 mercury cougar, and in Europe on the 1.7 Ford Puma.
