The tech-packed Focus is a perfect match for CES, which runs from Jan. 6-9 in Las Vegas. DEARBORN, Mich., Nov. 3, 2010 – Consumer demand for Ford Motor Company’s fresh lineup of high-quality, fuel-efficient vehicles in October helped the company grow monthly sales 19 percent versus a year ago, with 157,935 units sold.

Year-to-date, Ford, Lincoln and Mercury sales totaled 1.6 million, up 21 percent – growing double the overall industry rate. Ford is on track to gain market share for the second year in a row – a result not achieved since 1993.

“Increasingly, consumers are choosing Ford,” said Ken Czubay, Ford vice president, U.S. Marketing, Sales and Service. “Ford’s broad range of high-quality, fuel-efficient vehicles offer buyers value that endures for the life of the purchase and when they trade their vehicle.”

Ford has shown consistent improvement in vehicle quality and reliability for several years. For 2011, 90 percent of Ford vehicles tested average or above average in the Consumer Reports study. In the most recent J.D. Power Initial Quality Study, Ford brand ranked fifth among all brands and first among non-luxury brands.

DEARBORN, Mich., Oct. 21, 2010 – The 2.0-liter engine coming early next year to the North American version of the 2012 Ford Focus will be one of the first on the market to combine the technology of gasoline direct injection (DI) with twin independent variable camshaft timing (Ti-VCT) and E85 flex fuel capability.

The combination of these technologies help make the dual-overhead-camshaft (DOHC) Focus 4-cylinder one of the most powerful, fuel-efficient and refined engines in its class and one of the most advanced non-turbocharged four-cylinder powerplants Ford has ever offered. Horsepower is rated at 160 and torque 146 lb.-ft., up from 140 and 136 respectively in the 2011 Ford Focus.

Direct injection improves fuel economy and performance by delivering the precise amount of gasoline right into the combustion chamber. The advanced fuel injection system works in concert with Ti-VCT, which adjusts the valve timing for optimum performance, helping Focus achieve an estimated 40 mpg highway with automatic transmission. And flex fuel capability gives drivers the choice of using less-expensive E85, a blend of 85 percent ethanol and 15 percent gasoline.

The direct-injected 2.0-liter Ti-VCT I-4 also serves as another example of Ford delivering fuel economy leadership by using advanced technologies to produce surprising power from minimal displacement. The engine can deliver outstanding fuel economy and emissions along with the throttle response, performance and flexibility expected from a world-class engine.

Algae for oil
Industry forecasters and trend magazines such as The Futurist have highlighted “algae for oil” as one of the hottest technologies and thought-provoking ideas for 2010.

Algae biofuel research received an added boost this spring when the House of Representatives introduced a bill (HR 5142) –known as the GREEN JOBS Act of 2010 – to encourage investment tax credits for algae-based biorefineries.

This year, Ford researchers visited Wayne State University’s National Biofuels Energy Laboratory, which is actively analyzing suitable algae strains that could be used as a feedstock for biodiesel. The Ford researchers, part of the company’s Systems Analytics and Environmental Sciences Department, also have conducted in-house research on the opportunities and challenges of producing biodiesel from algae oil.

MONTEREY, Calif., Aug. 13, 2010 – How do you amp up a performance car package as complete as the new 2012 Mustang Boss 302 – already a street-legal race car in its own right? Pull out everything that doesn’t make it go faster and add in more of what does. The result is the limited-production Laguna Seca package – the ultimate 2012 Boss, named to commemorate the first-place Boss 302 finish at the 1970 Trans-Am series opener.

“The Laguna Seca package puts a race-ready version of the new Mustang Boss 302 directly into enthusiasts’ hands,” said Mark Fields, Ford president of The Americas. “Laguna Seca isn’t intended for Boss buyers who simply want an exhilarating daily driver. Think of it like a factory-built race car, which we hope avid racers and track-day fans are going to love.”

Boss Laguna Seca builds on the bumper-to-bumper improvements found on the standard Boss while further stiffening the chassis and installing an aerodynamics package carried over almost in its entirety from the Ford Racing Boss 302R.
