DEARBORN, Mich., Feb. 21, 2011 – The Ford Fiesta is now the first car in its segment to earn top crash test ratings in each of the world’s largest auto markets that perform safety testing, the U.S., China and Europe.

“Ford is committed to safety, including our efforts to deliver top crash test ratings that customers look to when choosing new vehicles,” said Sue Cischke, group vice president of Sustainability, Environment and Safety. “Fiesta is the latest example of that safety commitment, and shows that a small, fuel-efficient car can deliver top safety.”

Testing agencies in the U.S., China, Europe and Australia/New Zealand rate the Ford Fiesta at the top of the list for crash ratings. Fiesta’s latest maximum five-star safety rating was awarded by the China Automotive Technology and Research Center under the China New Car Assessment Program, or C-NCAP. This follows maximum five-star ratings in Europe and Australia/New Zealand.

The 2011 Ford Fiesta, the only car in its segment to earn a Top Safety Pick from the U.S. Insurance Institute for Highway Safety under its new test standards, continues to earn recognition in major global markets for its safety performance and rating in independent third-party testing.

DEARBORN, Mich., Feb. 1, 2011 – Consumer demand for Ford’s full family of cars, utilities and trucks continued to grow in January, as retail sales climbed 27 percent versus a year ago. Retail sales for cars grew 35 percent, 22 percent for utilities and 24 percent for trucks.

Ford’s total sales in January (including sales to fleet customers) were 127,317, up 13 percent.  Total sales comparisons included a planned 27 percent decline in sales to daily rental companies and the discontinuation of the Mercury brand.

DEARBORN, Mich., Dec. 1, 2010 – Consumer demand for Ford Motor Company’s fresh lineup of high-quality, fuel-efficient vehicles boosted November sales 24 percent versus a year ago, with 147,338 units sold.

Year-to-date, Ford, Lincoln and Mercury sales totaled 1.74 million, up 21 percent – growing at double the overall industry rate. Ford remains on track to gain market share for the second year in a row – a result not achieved since 1993.

DEARBORN, Mich., Nov. 30, 2010 – Old clothes turn up in plenty of places – the hamper, the bottom of a closet, behind the washing machine. They’re also found in the next-generation Ford Focus, albeit in different and more useful forms.

The 2012 Focus, on sale early next year in North America and Europe, uses these cottons from recycled clothing in areas such as carpet backing and sound-absorption materials for interior quietness. Using environmentally friendly materials, including recycled clothing, is one part of Ford’s overall green strategy.

“Ford is continually looking for greener alternatives,” said Carrie Majeske, product sustainability manager. “One of our key goals is to use more recycled or renewable materials without compromising performance or durability. Recycled content is a way to divert waste from landfills and reduce the impact of mining virgin material.”

Ford’s “reduce, reuse and recycle” commitment is part of the company’s broader global sustainability strategy to reduce its environmental footprint while at the same time accelerating the development of advanced, fuel-efficient vehicle technologies around the world.

Over the past several years, Ford has concentrated on increasing the use of non-metal recycled and bio-based materials, including soy foam seat cushions, recycled resins for underbody systems, recycled yarns on seat covers and natural-fiber plastic for interior components.

LAS VEGAS, Nov. 2, 2010 – Ford has revealed plans to leverage the all-new Focus for  motorsports by supporting the development of a next-generation touring car for global competition – the latest indication of the company’s comprehensive approach to leveraging its global product platforms.

The move, announced at the 2010 Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) show in Las Vegas, extends Ford’s reputation for offering race-capable, affordable platforms that can be converted into a race car, including Mustang and most recently, Fiesta.
