DEARBORN, Mich., Sept. 3, 2010 – The wealth of available class-exclusive features added to the 2011 Ford Edge include driver assistance technologies that bring peace of mind.

Leading the safety technology for the popular midsize crossover is Ford Motor Company’s exclusive AdvanceTrac with RSC. This electronic stability control system helps maintain a driver’s intended path by measuring side-to-side yaw through steering angle, lateral acceleration and yaw rate sensors and automatically making braking and throttle adjustments.

When wheel slip is sensed, AdvanceTrac reduces engine torque and applies selected brakes. RSC is an additional vehicle control software module that monitors and helps control vehicle roll rate.

DEARBORN, Mich., Aug. 17, 2010 – Sales of Ford Edge, which arrived on the market in late 2006, hit 400,000 this weekend – more than any midsize crossover vehicle during the same period.

Also this past weekend, the new 2011 Ford Edge began shipping from Oakville Assembly Complex in Ontario to dealerships across the United States and Canada.

“Edge competes in one of the fastest-growing and most fiercely competitive segments in the industry,” said Amy Marentic, Ford’s Crossover Group Marketing Manager. “Still, Edge is growing sales at an incredible rate.”

As of July, Edge sales for the year were up 33 percent over last year – more than double the overall industry sales.

Variable Camshaft Timing (VCT) is an automobile variable valve timing technology developed by Ford. It uses electronically controlled hydraulic valves that direct engine oil into the camshaft phaser cavity. These oil control solenoids are bolted into the cylinder heads towards the front of the engine near the camshaft phasers. The powertrain control module (PCM) transmits a signal to the solenoids to move a valve spool that regulates the flow of oil to the phaser cavity. The phaser cavity changes the valve timing by either advancing or retarding the camshafts to allow for optimum engine performance, reduced emissions, and increased fuel efficiency.

The VCT system is used in Ford’s Triton 5.4L 3-valve V8 engine; the Australian Barra 182 and 240 Inline-6s; Ford’s 4.6L 3-valve V8 engine used in the 2006-present Ford Explorer and 2005-present Ford Mustang GT; and the 2.0L Zetec Inline-4 used in the 1998-2003 Ford Escort ZX2 and the Ford Contour. It was also used in 99-00 mercury cougar, and in Europe on the 1.7 Ford Puma.
